Art of Hypocrisy Hooded Sweatshirt

The Art of Hypocrisy sweatshirt was designed in the context of the Venice Biennale, where Top Manta was selected to showcase its history of social and political struggle in the defence of the rights of migrants.

It is a historic event: for the first time, a migrant and racialized group occupies a leading role in an artistic event such as the Biennale, reserved for the cultural elites of the global north.

The T-shirt denounces the art of hypocrisy of the states of the European Union, since the Venice Biennale coincides this year with the declaration of a “migratory emergency” made by the government of Giorgia Meloni due to the arrival of small boats on the Italian coast.

This clash of realities demonstrates a blatant contradiction. It is hypocritical that the same states that expel us from our homes, kill us at the borders and punish us with immigration laws then select us to participate in the Biennial and claim to be an inclusive and multicultural society.
